There’s a sophistication to black and white that’s undeniably modern, as you’ll see in Bergovaya, by the Russian firm Geometrix Design. Another key element is the bold use of a swirling paisley on the floor between the dining area and living area. Not only does it function as virtual carpet, but it holds a polished sheen that in turn bounces off storage units in black, and a dining table in glass. Then, the designers ingeniously soften the black-and-white edges — with vivid color. An exuberant purple loveseat holds pride of place; blue lighting casts the entire living room in that hue. A paisley-“carpeted” hallway bears a white-and-glass hall table and black wall — plus a subtle violet lampshade. And what is that color bouncing off a sleek dining room chair…but pink?
